Classifying insulating gloves by their voltage rating helps ensure the glove provides protection for the voltage you’re working with. Class 0 gloves are designed for lower-voltage tasks and are rated to protect up to 1,000 volts. This makes them the correct choice for work up to about 1 kV, sitting above the 500 V limit of the lower class and below higher classes that are used for higher voltages. The essential idea is to match the glove’s rated maximum use voltage to the actual voltage of the job so the insulation remains effective. If voltages approach or exceed 1,000 V, a higher-class glove is needed.
